Mavado Faces ‘Surprising’ Arrest Warrant in Jamaica

Mavado, born David Brooks, is currently the subject of an old arrest warrant in St. Andrew parish. The warrant, from June 9, 2018, alleges assault by Mavado on another man who previously shot at the artist in the same year. Previously disputed, the warrant’s existence was confirmed by Deputy Superintendent Randy Sweeney of Saint Andrew North Police.
Vows to pursue legal action related to his son’s prior incarceration have been overshadowed by revelations of his own legal troubles. Mavado, who resides overseas, expressed his surprise upon learning about the warrant and has maintained his innocence related to the alleged crime. The unexpected development raises significant questions about his future, particularly concerning his potential return to Jamaica and the legal hurdles he may encounter.
In the current political climate, an intense debate over his possible extradition has already unfolded. There is currently an active extradition treaty agreement between the USA and Jamaica which would ultimately provide for his deportation back to Jamaica to answer the warrant. Not only does this situation cast a shadow over his personal and professional life, but it also poses potential ramifications for his family, especially as he navigates these legal challenges from foreign where he currently resides.
